    Going out to Les Gets in Alps in August,anyone got any decent routes,will be new to this so any hints appreciated

    This might also interest you, these cols are closed to cars on the dates stated so that cyclists can ride uninterrupted by traffic. a brilliant idea and a good indication as to how seriously the French take their cycling.
    4th August-Col de Glandon
    19th August- Col de la Ramaz
    23rd Aug- Col de la Madeleine
    25th Aug- Cols du Grand Cucheron and de Champlaurent

    The weather in August is
    The weather in August is generally hot, often prone to thunderstorms in the evenings. That said, it’s the weather and totally unpredictable. The good thing is that any bad weather doesn’t tend to set in and usually passes fairly quickly.
    The roads vary, some of the cols are busier than others, where there is an alternative route they tend to be quiet. The Joux Plane is great, the road is in pretty good nick and its fairly quiet because the alternative is a faster main road. The Corbier is another good and quiet local climb. There are some beautiful rides in the Vallee Verte (Bellevaux, Megevette) area, the cols in the area include Ramaz, Cou and Feu but otherwise the riding is fairly rolling and the roads are dead peaceful.     Brain does melt sometimes due to the heat and altitude! Hows the weather in England? (hehe!)
    We live in a complete bubble here, ashamed to say I have no idea what is happening in the outside world, always reading yesterdays papers. But the mountains provide something new and epic everyday- can’t complain….

    I’ve often fantasised about
    I’ve often fantasised about upping sticks and moving to the mountains. Snowboard in winter, HC climbs the rest of the year… ahhhhhh

    Unfortunately an entire season in a ski resort would melt my brain, I think.

    I am new to the forum but

    I am new to the forum but came across this post while I was researching road cycling in Les Gets. We are based out here and I thought you might be interested in this link http://www.valleedaulps.com/documents/guidevelo.pdf, the tourist office have put it together and it has most of the local rides in the area.
    We have a small company specialising in supported day tours which means you can cycle awesome routes down to Lake Geneva, or over to Annecy/Chamonix with out having to worry about cycling all the way back too. You can find more info at http://www.velovation.co.uk
    You can’t beat the cycling out here so enjoy…

    The Col de Joux Vert up from
    The Col de Joux Vert up from Montriond to Avoriaz is good and offers an alternative route up there, also Colombiere is easy to get to but climbing back up to Les Gets means it is quite a tough ride.

    Hi I went last year and did
    Hi I went last year and did these climbs and going next week for 4 days the climbs for you are these.
    1. Drop out of Les Gets to Morzine-Avoriaz climb I think its 22 hairpin bends from Morzine and Avoriaz. The climb starts from Morzine and is pure alpine climb CAT 1
    2.Les Gets to Taninges to Samonens then super hard climb of Col do Joux Plane with awesome decent back to Morzine.

    3. Also Co-de-La Ramaz close by CAT 1 loop back to Lets Gets

    4. More info or routes at Morzine tourist office
