What does the wheel sizes mean?

    I have a Mongoose Maurice which has a wheel size of 700x18c/23c. I tried putting on a 28c schwalbe marathon plus tyre on it (which fitted on, but doesn’t look ok). My tire fitting ordeal is prompting this question.

    I already have a separate thread about my MM bike.

    What is the max & min size that my wheel can take? on the rim, it says 700x18c/25c? Was it a good idea to put a 28c tire on?

    I have the 28c on front tire and it is bulging out from the rim (I mean, the tire beads are completely inside the rim but the tire is bulging out compared to the 25c I had earlier)

    Please advice…

    take the rim width
    take the rim width (internal)

    min tyre size = 1.4x this
    max tyre size=2.1x this

    so for yer average 15mm rim min= 21mm tyre, max=31.5

    in practice you can push it a bit.

    18c/23c

    is either an indication of minimum & maximum tyre sizes suitable (unlikely) – or inner/outer rim width

    the 700 is the rim size, the
    the 700 is the rim size, the 23 is the tyre width.
