Okay, so we've reached the point where we've nearly built all the bits of the 2012 Fantasy Cycling game, only three days after it started. There's still a few things to do on the, erm, to-do list and these are they:

    1) rider form graphs and stage points on their pop-up profiles (plus headshots of everyone)
    2) tabs in user leagues for the different competitions
    3) invite box to invite a friend
    4) system emails with stage updates and previews
    5) mobile version of site

all of this is scheduled to be ready for the Paris-Nice.

is there any other functionality you'd like to see? if so, comment below. we won't guarantee that we'll build it but we do try and make the game as playable and friendly as possible.

please note: this is not the place to discuss possible rule/scoring changes, as there won't be any rule/scoring changes. the rules are set for the season.

    cheers!

no, there isn’t a consistency prize. it’s been replaced with a high score league, for the highest individual stage scores.

Thanks Daave. Probably aint that bad in retrospect!! Just finished a tough week and was feeling sorry for myself and the lack of time to research riders and stages – hence the strop. Apologies to gkam and alan also 🙂 and hey, I’m in the top half of the league so must be doing something right…

I see that now it’s not
I see that now it’s not possible to see the transfers made by other people for the upcoming stage and I agree with that, but is it possible to see these transfers when the stage has started instead of after the end of the stage (like the last year? So it’s much more interesting to follow the stage… in that case, we know which riders want to do it right, which one not (if this rider is in our adversary’s team). I think it’s much more interesting to follow the knowing the composition of all fantasy teams.

yeah, it’s something we’ve considered. not quite sure how it would wok but it’s something we’ll probably add for next year rather than this year

the overall prize is bragging rights and a lovely trophy.

and no, it’s not the most important classification, because only a small minority of people will ever be in contention; anyone who joins now is already 1,000 points behind

you’re hardly bottom of the pile. you’re top half, after all

if you’re playing any kind of game like this then putting in the time to find out who’s doing what is always going to benefit you in the long run. if you don’t have the time/means to do that as much as the next player then you’ll be at a disadvantage whether the jerseys are shown on the fantasy game or not.

not saying it’s not a worthwhile idea, just that it won’t result in a level playing field.

It doesn’t take that much to
It doesn’t take that much to bookmark a few of the key pages on the official tour site; results, stage profiles etc, put them in a folder and open with one click. That gives you quick access to all the key info. Quicker than using the info on the fantasy site.

After that you’ll need to do some research if you want to be even in the top 50, let alone win.

I really do not see how a
I really do not see how a ‘current’ leaders jersey takes away from research. As we all know somebody could have ‘form’ yet totally stuff up on a stage, get caught behind a crash. Having a gentle reminder on who is wearing what jersey is helpful. I work earlies and am in my bed 8pm. I do not have time to go trawling the internet to see if cav is wearing yellow going into the mountains on le tour. To call up the rider profile and see that a rider is still holding the leaders/point/kom or whatever jersey would be useful. It does not necessarily mean that I am choosing a rider soley based on what jersey he is wearing..

    I think the form indicators
I think the form indicators are of less value given the increased points available for stage finishes this time round. Yes you can grow safe points just using them but that will never replace good planning, knowledge of riders and taking a punt on the stage results.

Additionally it makes it more accessible to new or less experienced players, and in my book anything that gets people more involved with the sport is a good thing (as well as increasing traffic, dwell time and site loyalty!).
