Pain in elbow’s – Anyone else?

I get pain / stiffness in my elbows on every ride after about 20 miles.

Its not that bad, just causes me to have to move my forearm up and down for a while to ease it.

I ride 98% on the hoods which is probably my problem. However this is my most comfortable position.

Is this just something we all get used to or my positioning needs tweaking?

I think i’ve solved my problem, and saves a load of £££’s on a fit too, just watched this dude

Seems my 125mm stem is too long, i’m going to get a 110mm and see how that goes.

Considering i set my own bike up, i was pleased to see that i have all the other adjustments “bang on”

Now if anyone wants a Pro vibe carbon stem with only 4 rides it will be in the classifieds.

    Thanks for the input..

    riding with your arms locked
riding with your arms locked might give you pains in your elbows after a while cos they’ll be getting continuously jolted by all the bumps in the road – I suppose it’s a bit like riding a mountain bike with the front fork locked out.

For years I rode with my arms locked out at both the elbows and wrists – probably cos I’m so used to riding bikes that are slightly too big for me.

Even these days when I make a conscious effort to unlock them they probably aren’t bent more than a couple of centimetres – that should be all it takes to make that bit of your suspension active, but I also make an effort to unlock my wrists and that’s what makes the real difference and gives fully active arm suspension. I’m guessing that if your wrists are locked out it’s still directing all that road shock straight up your arm to your elbow whereas if both of them are moving a lot of that road shock is being dissipated.

My suggestion is that you ask a friend to have a look at your position on the bike and maybe make some suggestions cos it could be something else about your position – failing that you might consider a bike fit, or you could take a picture of yourself on the bike side on and post it on here… there’ll be no shortage of positional wisdom on offer I’ll bet

I have a slight bend, only about 2cms more and they would be locked.

I take it this isn’t normal then, sounding like the stems a tad too long?

When you are on the hoods are you riding with your arms locked out or with a slight bend in ’em?
