Simon, i’m not totally down on him, just dont think (in my mind) that he’s going to be as big as some if the reports about him say

I’m not against him in any way, just think he’s a long way off being the big star that everyone seems to think he’s going to become and with HTC folding i’ll wait to see where he goes, it may be the making of him, but it could swing the other way

Gkam i have scope to catch you in the vuelta, and with only 3 events, i believe, after the vuelta, u need to make a few more points on me before the vuelta finishes to catch me overall but its gonna be close, we should both finish about 100th overall unless either of us has a distaster

So much for the people defending Degenkolb yesterday, i really dont think he’s a contender for a stage this year and depending on where he ends up next year, i dont see him as a GT rider

Well done to Kittel for taking the stage today, I’m still mystified as to why you are so dismissive of Degenkolb though?

Out of curiosity, I just checked latest IG Rankings (which include Tour of Poland), Degenkolb is in 58th place, Kittel is 106th.

Now that doesn’t prove who is the better rider necessarily, but it does suggest that dismissing Degenkolb out of hand is a bit unfair.

For what it’s worth, I see him as more of an attacking rider who can sprint, rather than an out-and-out sprinter – which is rather handy, since he’ll be racing with Kittel at Skil Shimano next season of course (and previously they raced together at Thüringer Energie).

By the way, Skil Shimano’s manager reckons Degenkolb is a future TDF green jersey winner.
