As the first stage of the Vuelta is a Team Time Trial, my theory is to choose 9 riders for stage 2. Whatever points you score in the first stage will be a complete guess. Anyone agree?

All good TT riders for this course – all on the ‘right’ teams – some will stay for the sprint stages – some will be transferred with an eye to stages 3 and 4.

The best laid plans never work out though.

I’m just wondering if the likes of SKY will do well in the TTT when a lot of their best pursuiters, BW excepted, are not there. Can Froome and Xandio do a TTT?

Ah, interesting. Thanks for the comments.

I’ve completely redesigned my team on the strategy of trying to score well in the TTT. Feel the risk I’ve taken though is that I will need to immediately reshuffle my team for stage 2 and 3. Working on the basis that 2 lots of 2 transfers will be enough to put my chosen riders back in the team. We’ll just have to see what happens.

In the Tour de France, I had Contador as my GC and he came 88th in the first stage. I think the opening few days are very difficult to guess who may be in the top 20.

I’ve made 3 changes to my provisional lineup of 3 weeks ago. I’ve got a strong base which should score good points right the way through the first week. I expect to get between 50 and 60 points from TTT with a core of 7 riders all in the strongest TTT teams but also some of the strongest bunch and group sprinters. I’ve got 2 guys who have the potential to not score anything during TTT but I might be lucky and get a point or 2. One of those is a points compromise who I’ll change through week 1 but the other is going to finish very high up on stage 2.

    Feeling confident… probably a bad sign! B-)

I’d just be happy to find a really decent roster list, Tuesday and still too many ds. I hate team time trials at the start of races. This year the winning team probably HTC, will dominate the top 10 till stage 3, stage 4 will split things up a bit. But you can only pick 2 riders from a team. Trying to work a compromise, but failing badly
