After peoples thoughts here. We’re holding our clubs first RT in early November. I’ve got 103km plotted out with good hills and terrain. My concern is a 10km section (Hockliffe to Woburns sands) it’s not flat and not busy, and to be honest I chose it because of the very hilly final 23km that follows it. And prior to that it’s pretty punchy.
I like a section like that to get your head down on, but is 10km pushing it?
My thinking is Hills – Flat Village sections – Hills.

    6 miles? That’s no problem
    6 miles? That’s no problem (unless it’s a motorway 😉 )

If you’re happy enough then run with it. Most routes are some kind of compromise. You can decide whether to change it for next time based on the feedback you receive.

If you’re really not sure then take a sample group of riders around it and see what they say.

    Well actually! When you come
Well actually! When you come off this section it’s a short stint and that’s exactly what they’ll be going up. Then up and down over all the Brickhills before the finish.

I’ve missed out Ivinghoe Beacon and Bison Hill, though we’ll decend the latter. My thinking is that everyone does those. Instead I’ve gone for multiple short ones like Bow Brickhill including the Crong?

So I have lots of up and down from Aston Clinton, Northchurch, Ashridge, Gaddesden Row, Studham and Whipsnade.
Then flat through the Bedfordshire villages to Woburn, then all the climbing starts again.

    on a 103km ride you’re going
on a 103km ride you’re going to have some stretches that are better than others, i wouldn’t worry unduly. If there’s a tough section after it people will be glad of the recovery.

We did the climb from Bow Brickhill up to the golf course on our epic ride the other day, you should *definitely* stick that in, it’s a fantastic road 🙂

    I should have said that’s
I should have said that’s 10km of the same road. I don’t think it’s dull but others might.
Very long gentle up hill, descend into Woburn (cafe) through Woburn and past Woburns mountainbike play area before turning off at the first roundabout.
