    I’ve been commuting to work for a few months now and recently got my hands on a set of bar ends. I went to fit them the other day with the plan to just budge everything on my bars inwards, resulting in enough space to fit the bar ends…..but it turns out the rubber end plugs are attached to a rubber grip that runs underneath my foam grips, making the whole plan a bit more laborious than first expected. I want to get round this problem without resorting to cutting the grips….any one got any decent tips on how to remove the buggers without inadvertently destroying them?

    Yes, it is a one-piece rubber sleeve. Someone else mentioned this tip to me I think it might be the one to go with, probably the best method to keep everything looking neat and tidy….the other thing that was suggested was the ‘stanley knife option’, but that could end up getting a bit messy.

    if it’s a one-piece rubber
    if it’s a one-piece rubber sleeve under the foam, it’s unlikely you’ll be able to do it. Best trick I remember is to actually use a hammer and tap through the grip and use the end of the bar to cut a perfect hole in the end of the grip before you move it inwards to fit the bar ends.

    If they’re a one piece rubber grip underneath and you want to keep them, I can’t see any other way of doing it.

    Novice Alert!
    It is difficult to comment without seeing the grips but, when changing the grips on my brompton I was advised to warm the grips with an hair dryer whilst rolling/peeling them off and to my amazement it worked!
