3 of us are planning a four day trip to South of France next September to do some riding. We are looking to base ourselves in Nice and I was wondering if anybody could recommend a place to stay that is cycling friendly?

We stayed in a cheap chain

We stayed in a cheap chain hotel next to the station for the Ironman  – they had no problems with bikes in the rooms.  As has been said – Nice is busy – you could at least ride down to the prom pretty quickly and then theres a bike path all along.

Stayed outside of Nice as well and rode along the coast road – bit too busy in the main resorts so yes you’d be better heading to the hills.

I can’t think of any specific

I can’t think of any specific recommendations as it depends on budget, but I would say that Nice itself is busy with traffic to negotiate as you cycle out of to get to some quieter roads, though the coastal cycle-way looks fun.

Personally I would stay a bit further West out of the city… in the Vence area perhaps… at the foot of some great climbs (Col de Vence) and countryside, and towns like Valbonne, St Paul De Vence, Tourettes Sur Loup all of which would be fun to visit.

I think the Etape this year starts in Nice… some hotels etc may be advertising now as cycle-friendly which may be a good place to start.
