Topeak rack final decision

    Yeah, That’s what I was thinking.  If I can save a few grams by getting a non-disc rack, then I’ll probably go for it.  It seems like there’s clearance, so I might go into a bike shop  and see if racks will fit.  I was also thinking a height adjustable rack as a lower rack would mean more stability.

    Hey, Yeah, I was thinking either a non-disc brake rack or a fat bike rack.  The non-disc brake rack may have enough clearance judging by the clearance from the caliper.  (I’m not sure though).  I emailed Topeak, but won’t hear back until Monday earliest.  I’ve already ordered their bag with the MTX Quick Trax, so I hope I can find a Topeak rack!

    Okay, thanks for all your help.  It doesn’t seem like these racks will fit without modification.  Bummer.

    Its got rather chunky
    Its got rather chunky dropouts, being off road heritage. The PDF user guide shows the racks without the angled spacer blocks, so you get a rack without and see if it has enough clearance.     Is this an odd ball size for

    Is this an odd ball size for a frame at the mounting area?  I could cut the mounts down but am rather hoping to get equipment that fits.  Maybe a fat bike rack?  Here are where the eyelets are.

    If the rack mounts are not on
    If the rack mounts are not on the dropout sections but instead on the chain stay then this would add more width.

    An option is to cut rack mounts on the Topeak, down in width to increase clearance. You would lose the stop for the bolt head, but could fit longer bolts and use larger washers on the outside of the rack mount. You would need to check on the disc brake side for clearance of the caliper.

    Hey, Thanks for this.  The measurement is actually closer 7″.  See pics.  I always imagined these racks would fit without issue, but now I’m not so sure after hearing about the 6″ measurement.

    I cant see how you can have an 8″ measurement from the outside of the frame where the wheel axle mounts. Take wheel out and measure again

    Mine is the super tourist dx. The measurement between the mounts is 150mm(6″)

    Hi, Thanks for this.  Which rack do you have?  I was told by Topeak support that the distance between the mounts is 6″ for those racks,  but I don’t think that’s the case, as the distance on mine is closer to 8″ and I have a 135mm hub.

    There are no real differences

    There are no real differences, except as you have seen the rear hoop is larger.  I have the setup on my bike, but dont know which one without going to look.  

    If your bike has disc brakes and spare eyelets for racks then these two racks will work fine.  They are designed to fit 135mm hub width frames.
