I think the fact the guy is

I think the fact the guy is on a bike is entirely irrelevant in reporting this matter.

It’s hard to articulate, but is the journalist so bereft of descriptors that the only thing he can use is the victim’s mode of transport? What is wrong with the really more accurate “Man jailed for 21 years after using car as weapon against 45 yr old man”? Is the ‘them and us’  / tribalism so ingrained in the journalist that somehow the idea that it involves a ‘cyclist’ might be in some way a mitigating factor  / explanatory? I’m kind of flummoxed really. I fail to see how the victim’s mode of transport has anything to do with the matter. I think this might be what covert / institutionalised  racism looks like.

    Threatening to kill him by

Threatening to kill him by text probably didn’t look too good to the jury either…

    It was the kicking, punching

It was the kicking, punching and strangling that got him the time. If it was just ramming, it’d be 3 points on his license (unless it was a first offence – that’d be driver school).

    A case of mistaken identity,

A case of mistaken identity, just a suspended fine would suffice in this case!
