Route recommendations around Centre Parcs Longleat Forest?

    Will be staying there this weekend, I’m bringing my CX with me so I can take the kids out for a spin around the place.

    Anyone have any recommendations (GPX?) for 30-40km loops in that sort of vicinity?  Assuming I get up reasonably early and aren’t too hungover đŸ™‚

    Wildlife apart, the plan for my last visit to this neighbourhood included a trip around Salisbury Plain on the Imber range perimeter path. Black ice stopped play sadly. It might take a bit longer than you can spare but you could do a short stretch of it from Warminster and come back via Chitterne and along the south side of the Wylye valley to Sutton Veny. It looks like a nice mixture of off road fun and quiet road. Enjoy.

    Much appreciated folks – sounds like some great suggestions. 

     

    This is the first time I’ve put (semi) knobbly tyres on the CX bike – it’s normally my winter bike so spends most of it’s life on the turbo đŸ˜€

    Watch out for the big sheep behind the fence. They looked a bit aggressive to me the last time I was cycling through there.

    Another cafe option with fantastic views to Martyn_K’s post is the tearoom at Shearwater (Maiden Bradley to Crockerton road). Think there’s a cycle path into Center Parcs from there as well.

    The first thing to do on an

    The first thing to do on an early morning is to head south to Horningsham and The Bath Arms pub. This is where the old main gate is located. You should be able to ride through the gate as it is on the NCN (National Cycle Route) which will give you a cracking view down the driveway to Longleat House. In front of the house turn right and that will take you up the main climb to the public tourist entrance and back on to the road Centre Parcs is on. Do this early before the tourists start coming in and it is an awesome climb.

    For a longer loop use the southern exit strategy and get a loop in that includes Longbridge Deverill, Monkton Deverill, Mere, Stourton (cafe option), Maiden Bradley and back to Centre Parcs. There is a quiet lane that cuts that loop in half (Monkton Deverill to Maiden Bradley) if you want a shorter ride. All this in on tarmac roads as i’m not the off-road/ gravel track type!
