Info needed on Roger Haydock Frame – “crimped” tubes

I recently saved a Roger Haydock bike from a metal skip at work but know very little about the bike builder. I believe R Haydock was a frame builder from Accrington in Lancashire.

I have never seen “crimped” top tubes and down tubes and it has been suggested that Columbus made such tubing but the bike has no stickers apart from the Haydock name. It has cinelli bar/stem and Mavic MA40 wheels so I imagine it wasn’t a total hack bike when it was built.

Links are pics of bike and it would be great if someone could help me out with a few details. Thanks, Paul

Seconded. Retrobike is the best place to get answers to this sort of question.

Be careful though… You may find that after a bit of browsing the retrobike pages, you suddenly start restoring bikes at a rate of n+1 a month…

Columbus SLX was done in a fluted tube, but it didn’t look like that.  I have seen that profile before, but have no idea what it is

Roger took over Henry Gregson cycles in Accrington. He has now retired but made excellent frames and had a great reputation for wheel building. You will see him riding around the Trough of Bowland and Yorkshire Dales.
