Wahoo Kickr / Tacx Neo Owners

    My 2nd Tacx Flux has gone belly up & is in the process of being sent back. Both have had the same issue within 3 months & although I can get a straight replacement I think I’m gonna swerve that & get something else. 

    It boils down to the Neo or the Kickr which I can get a discount on both but even after that the Neo is still a little more expensive. 

    Only thing that puts me off the Neo is that fact that it’s Tacx & so was the Flux. Tacx themselves have been great, I’ve had no issues with them in terms of getting a replacement etc but it’s hassle I could do without. I just want something that works & is reliable. 

    I’m leaning towards the Kickr but I am slightly concerned about the noise which from what I’ve read although isn’t unbearably loud is a fair bit louder than either the Flux or Neo. 

    All real world experiences welcomed.

    It’s never bothered me for sound. It’s quiet compared to tyre on trainers. When training, if I’m taking it easy, I can hear it a little, nothing of concern. when I’m racing, doing high intensity workouts, I have a big fan running, music blaring, can’t hear the Kickr. :D

    I have tride a Tacx Vortex,

    I have tride a Tacx Vortex, Tacx Genius and own a Tacx Neo – sadly not tried any of the others you mention. I can’t fault the Neo though, pretty quiet (aside from the chain noise) and very stable even when doing max effort sprints out of the saddle. The road feel thingy it does it kind of fun when you’re riding around on zwift, adds something a bit different.

    Aside from the price I can’t really think of anything bad about the Neo really. It’s kind of trick to fold up and move around to some extent. But then all these units are ~25kg so a pain to move I suppose.

    I have considered it as it does review very well. Only concerns with it are as it is new to the market the long term reliability of it. 

    The noise video I watched seem to show it was quite a bit louder than the Kickr but it’s often subjective as obviously depends on your set up & where it’s used etc. 

    Will certainly have another look at it though.

    Aye, one of my brothers has a mk 1 Kickr and it’s been absolutely solid as a rock. I’ve also tried the 2017 model and that was super smooth and and seemed a little quieter/more pleasant sounds. I’d have either in a heartbeat, lovely bits of kit That said, from what I’ve heard, if it was someone elses money I’d go for a Neo and if it was my money, probably the Direto these days (power accuracy, responsiveness, noise). Nice problem to have… 🙂

    That’s what I thought probably louder than the Flux (when it works properly).

    I’d like to hear it in action but don’t think LBS would be too chuffed when I had no intention of buying it from them.
