Budget wheels recommendations…

hi i have a BMC Granfondo GF02. Looking to upgrade the wheels soon ish. Budget is about £500 (maybe including tyres). I like general road cycling, got a couple of triathlons planned this year & I like to climb swiftly. Looking these, leaning towards the hunts, thoughts on which is better? Hunts aero race wide (31 deep) or Mavic ksyrium elite ust

I got a pair not so long ago from Wiggle’s Ebay shop for around £300, popped on some GP 4000’s and latex inner tubes and they’re amazing.

+1 to this.

I have the RR21’s & I think they’re outstanding value for money.

Have to agree with matthewn5. Mavics are great but everything on them is proprietary, anything breaks and they’ll either be unfixable, cost a fortune to fix or be a right pain in the ‘arris to get fixed.

I suggest buying some parts on your own and find a local wheelbuilder:

-Hope Mono RS hubs 170£

-Mavic Open Pro UST rims 90£ (Wiggle) or Kinlin equivalent

– Wheelbuilder labour + Sapim spokes + brass nipples 150£

Go for the Hunts, they’re

Go for the Hunts, they’re well made and use standard spokes so you can rebuild them if you ever wear out a rim. The Mavics will be in the recycling bin once the rims wear out.

£369 for the Hunts seems a good price.

Vision Team 35s are currently £240 at Merlin (favourable review at http://road.cc/192701).

Don’t get too hung up on weight, it’s not anywhere near as big a factor as many people like to think. Also, not everyone likes the braking on carbon rims.

I’m sure I’ve seen a set of carbon-fared alloy rims that looked very aero at a very reasonable price, but I can’t recall much about them, parcours grimpeur or something. It might be worth search this site for wheels.

Wiggle Prime RR-50 or RR-38 ? I’d choose 38 front and 50 rear, should work for all riding.
