    Hi all,
Tomorrow i’m looking at a 2012 Boardman CX Team (this model HERE). Originally £900 New and someone is selling it for £350. got a few questions as only had mountainbikes before. It’s a size small which is what i need (and not many second hand smalls about!)

    1. Price – Is this way too much to pay for a 6-year old bike? what should i pay?
    2. Are the components replaceable/serviceable by a bike shop still or are they simply too outdated?
    3. Overall thoughts on this?

    Any help appreciated
    Andy

I would just say to look at

I would just say to look at the frame.

Any signs of cracks on the joints/welding or rust points stay away. All the parts can be replaced, but the frame is the main point.

And budget for a new chain and rear cassette.

If it’s in decent nick ie

If it’s in decent nick ie never been dropped or crashed and had tread left on the tyres, that’s a decent price. Being six years old isn’t an issue at all. Compatible parts are still plentiful; you’ll have no problem finding replacement bottom brackets, derailleurs etc. If it looks nice and it fits you buy it without worrying about part replacement. My Dave Yates MTB from 1991 is still going strong and I can buy parts for it with no issues.
