    Anybody got any recommendations? Ideally somewhere that can do brakes with UK set up.

    Another vote for Free Motion.

    Another vote for Free Motion. Service is excellent, bikes are faultless. I just got back from a week out there on a Specialized Tarmac 2018 which was awesome. We took advantage of their daily tours too which mean your group gets a guide, taking the hassle out of working out routes for yourself.

    Regarding the brakes. I would not expect any companies to offer bikes with UK setup. The rear brake is in the right hand in Europe for safety. It is better to be dragging the rear brake while signalling left in the middle of a traffic lane as it offers more control. In the UK we drive on the wrong side of the road (in comparison to Europe) so our rear brake is swapped to the left hand.

    Freemotion are great. Not sure about the brakes; never felt the need to swap them over. 

    +1 for the ride up Pico de Las Nieves. Great day out with a freemotion tour. Very sociable.

    freemotion. use them every year brand new bikes every season and lots of mechnics to maintain them.  i got back a few weeks ago i had a supersix evo ultegra disc it was faultless.  My brother-in-law had a specialised but for some reason it had mid compact gearing he struggled a bit so they changed the rings.  Not the cheapest but hassle free.  Ride up Pico Nieves you’ll love it 8000ft in 40k from memory.

    Not for Gran Canaria

    Not for Gran Canaria specifically – but make sure you try and arrange something in advance.  When I rocked up in Fuerteventura early this year (April), all the “proper” bike shops had nothing available as everything was already in use.

     

    Luckily, the Apartments we were staying at had a sister resort up the road with some reasonable (planet X) bikes available.  If you always use both front and rear together as I do, I didn’t find the brakes being reversed remotely problematic.
