You see recommendations for pretty expensive hex key sets, on the grounds, inter alia, that their sizing is more accurate, so there will be a better mate between hex key and the bolt head.

But that must presuppose that the bolts are all accurately made. If there is a degree of variation in the sizing of “lower quality” hex keys, is it not reasonable to suppose that there will be variation in the actual size of the female bolt head.
In which case, it is essentially random whether your very accurate expensive tool mates more or less well than a cheaper one?
I appreciate that the more expensive ones may be harder and thus less prone to rounding (but more likely to round a soft bolt head?).
Interested to hear peoples views.
