Superstar Components not responding to emails?

A friend has had problems with a pair of their wheels – the Pacenti SL23 rims have split around a few of the spokes at the rear.

They were under warranty and Superstar offered to replace the rear but they didn’t have the same rims, so it would be different to the front. They offered to replace the front under the crash replacement programme – my friend would just have to pay for the one rim.

Unfortunately, there was illness and a subsequent bereavement in the family, and the wheels were put to one side while this was being dealt with.

Now, Superstar aren’t responding to him – he’s sent several emails.

I’m aware there’s a pages-long thread elsewhere about this company, but has anyone here had dealings with them recently?

    Thanks.

    I like them, I’ve only

I like them, I’ve only ordered a few bits here and there but they’ve always been quick to arrive and with no problems.

I ordered a pair of wheels

I ordered a pair of wheels from them but i coildnt find the spacer. They put one in the post and it was with me 2 days after the wheels. The wheels have lasted 2 years of hard use so far with only the rear needing a little trueing.

    Good wheels. Good service.

Spacer was taped inside the box and it was my own daft fault i couldn’t find it.

I’m not overly enamoured with Superstar Components. I bought a 2nd hand chain guide a few years ago which had a fairly chewed up grub screw. I emailed them hoping they’d maybe just send me one but got a reply along the lines of “Duh, just go to your local hardware store and buy one!”.

So you’re pissed off that a company didn’t offer to replace something for you for free when you didn’t even buy the item directly from them?
You know they are a fairly budget set-up so probably buy a lot of the stuff in from China and therefore probably haven’t got loads of spares knocking about because the box of screws will be on someone’s desk in the far east.
My experiences with them have been generally positive.

    They sound horrible.

    They sound horrible.

I can’t believe their solution to having bad screws is just, “go and do the thing that we didn’t bother to do”.

Everyone seems to have the same experience too.

I will be sure to avoid these guys.

I’ve always found them very helpful, especially with a similar rim warranty claim which was dealt with speedily and with no fuss at all (six months ago maybe).

I was attracted by their low prices and no-nonsense approach and I ordered about £40-worth of disc pads.  They arrived promptly, were a decent fit and lasted a reasonable time but weren’t actually much good at the stopping business.  I’ve gone back to paying twice the price for something that works.

    Yeah, I understand the

Yeah, I understand the margins are probably wafer thin but behaving like that will only alienate future customers. I was actually looking at a pair myself a few months back, and am glad I put the decision off!
