What bike to buy

    Hi all,
    I am after some advice.
    I have the finance to get a new bike but struggling to decide what material to get.
    I am 43 and 95kg but hoping in time to get to 85kg.
    I suffer from neck and shoulder issues so want to have a comfortable ride in a more upright position.
    I am 187cm tall.
    I am hoping to go to the alps later this year and I am thinking about a groupset consisting of SRAM Force and disc brakes.
    Maximum budget £2300
    Any advice please? Is the new Specialized Roubaix with stem suspension a game changer or gimmick?

    187cm, is that 6’3″?  Admirable you want to get down to 85KG, from 95Kg.  Unless you’re a string bean its going to be hard work, ut good luck.  Also being 95Kg(6′ tall) riding in the Alps is going to be tough.  I weigh 95KG, I will be going to Tenerife, so have geared my bike with MTB groupset. I know its going to be tough because I’ve ridden up Teide on the simulator and it took hours to get to the top – slowly

    Bike, you need a bike with a higher stack number and a lower reach.  the latter can be altered significantly by changing stem length.  Being tall stack is usually pretty good on larger bike frames, but sometimes not sufficient.  There are stem risers from BBB=google search,  I have used them in the past.

    I too suffer from neck issues having worn vertebrae, so needing nerve root injection to settle trapped nerve a few years ago.  I have to be careful of position.  I built a new bike with Kinesis Tripster V2 frame, it has a decent stack and a slack steering angle(70deg) so allowing a shorter stem without making the steering twitchy.

    Game changer…I owned the

    Game changer…I owned the previous SL4 Roubaix and just rode the new 2017 model for the first time.  WOW! 

    Smooth as butter and the front end is totally planted. I can’t believe how much better they made it. I was positively seeking out the rougher tarmac ‘cos it was SO cool (which I know, sounds kinda weird).

    I was recently looking for a new bike and was interested in the Roubaix but there aren’t any in the country until the beginning of April so I settled on a disc version of the Trek Domane which is very comfortable on long rides.
