Hi – currently have a Bontrager select flat top that came with my previous bike (2005 Trek pilot 2.1) and am wondering if there have been any advancements in the last 10 years worth upgrading to.

I now ride a Focus Cayo carbon mostly rural hilly roads 25-30 miles with the occasional 100m event.

Also – FSA Omega compact. Cheap as chips and super comfortable (in my hands).

edit… albeit not as cheap as chips previously referred to.

    the shorter-shallower, the better!

the shallower compact bars with 125 mm drop actually more aggressive as larger drop bars. because I always place the drops as low as I can get down, and, with less difference between the hoods-drops, my cruising position is just more aggressive 🙂

and with shorter reach, you can use longer stems, which are, apart from making the steering more predictable and calm, look better as well.

I only ride 130mm and longer stems, so, trust me, when I say, that a long stem with a short-shallow bar is the way to go.

    I recommend ITM Alcor80 from probikekit.co.uk
