You know that weaksauce citizen’s arrest law that basically never gets used (apart some brave soul futiely trying it on Tony Blair for that grand reward or whatever)?
Well. I reckon it needs updating.
Video tech is really close to the stage where you can stream at a decent quality. There are some big and small names that let you stream live from your cam or phone already. Quality is okayish, but still needs a few years to be really clear and lag free. Networks are updating quite well too to handle it and even if they weren’t – improving compression tech will take care of any bottleneck.
So.
How about the police have an app where you can livestream a potential offense as it happens. They can use the GPS data to get the location etc right away and respond if they feel the need.
But lets go one better. Police can green light use of a citizen’s arrest if you notify that you want to do so. On top of that, we need to campaign for personal tazer use, so we can taze the dipshit kicking off. To make it better, tazers would need a license and would be available only to vulnerable users – vulnerable road users would be one category. Female professionals who do call outs in dodgy areas could be another.
How much fun would that be. Think about it. Who’s in.
