Giant saddle issue

    I’ve just recently purchased a Giant Defy Advanced Pro 2 road bike, while I absolutely love it. My only issue is with the saddle, it’s just doesn’t feel right – well for me anyway ! Anyone know if can buy a gel based cover for the saddle or a great pair of bib shorts ?? Any advice would be appreciated

    Have replaced the saddles on every bike of mine after not getting on with the original. I like WTB Devo & Deva, they just seem right for me, even in normal clothes (for shorter trips, anyway). I tried the narrower Volt but it wasn’t as good.

    Whatever you do don’t buy a heavily padded gel saddle, it’s not the solution.

    I’m pretty sure my TCR came

    I’m pretty sure my TCR came with the same saddle and yes it’s junk and really quite heavy to boot. I swapped it for a specialized off another bike which I rarely ride.

    Giant specs the same made-by

    Giant specs the same made-by-Velo saddle for many of its road bikes, the Defy included. I got the same one on my TCX, and while I rode the daylights out of it, I was never as comfortable on it as I should be. Basic shape is fine, but it just rubbed me the wrong way as I pedaled – the nose in particular was a little too wide or obtrusive.

    Replaced it with a Selle SMP Hell. Best decision I’ve made.

    Funny enough, people in my country seem to regard that stock Giant/Velo saddle in relatively high esteem, fetching a pretty good price on the second-hand parts market.

    I’ve a  Giant Defy Advanced 2

    I’ve a  Giant Defy Advanced 2-E and I swapped out the saddle for a Fabric Scoop Shallow Eite (previously on my Ribble). The Giant saddle was too long nosed for my undercarriage. Wasn’t really on the sit bones at all, just not the right shape…a horrible experience.

    A lot of saddles have centre
    A lot of saddles have centre section removed or no nose versions. These are very good at removing any pressure on the delicate undercarriage.

    I use Adamo saddles on all my Bikes. Get your sit bones measured and buy a slotted saddle

    Just been through the same

    Just been through the same thing with my Scott Addict. Before you rush off to the local bike shop, try and get a handle on what “doesn’t feel right” means. In my case I had two problems, firstly the stock seat was between, rather than under, my sit bones, giving the impression of the seat forcing the bones apart. Second, when in the drops, on a race geometry bike set up aggressively, I had perineal pain. A few here have suggested Specialized, with their 30 day no quibble return policy, and that’s the way I went. I found that a wider than standard fit (155mm) and perineal cutout solved my problems, with support under the bones in all riding positions. My new seat, Specialized Power Expert, did 60 hard miles today with perfect comfort. Your problem may be different, but I guess the point I am making is if you understand your problem, and what you are trying to achieve, it might help you solve the problem.

    I think I had the same saddle

    I think I had the same saddle on my tcr, wasn’t for me. Worth a trip to a specialised stockist if theres one near by and try a couple. Ended up swapping back to my basic saddle off my allez.

    First off, great bike!!! Well chosen. I have had the same issue with the same saddle. I swapped mine out because it wasn’t the right shape of width for me. As above if you already have a saddle you get on with then get another of those. If not find a place that offers a bum/saddle fit. Fabric do a 60 day return policy and specialised do a 30 return. Some LBS do demo saddles. Hope it gets sorted I know how annoying it can be

    You’d probaby be better off

    You’d probaby be better off trying to find the saddle that works for your particular contact point… if you had a previous bike with a saddle you liked, that is a good place to start (background: I have a Giant Revolt, the Giant saddle played havoc with my contact point – so I swapped it for the saddle off my previous bike and the havoc went away)
