Oakley lenses compared – Prizm v standard

    Dear Oakley experts,

    My beloved has kindly treated me to a pair of Radar EV Pitch grey/jade iridium, on the advice she got from my LBS. On first impression they’re a whole lot nicer to my eyes than my Zerorh+ Gothas

    My question is whether the Prizm Road version of the lens is a big improvement over the standard one that it came with?

    LBS unable to get em in so I grabbed them from Shadestation. Ordered late afternoon, arrived the next morning. Only worn em for 2 hours so far but I love them. Anyone need a jade iridium, only worn twice? Thanks again watlina 😀

    Ah thanks Watlina, I think I’ll ask my LBS to swap the Jade lenses for PRIZM Road (assuming they can get some in).

    If you want to use Cycle Store (I’ve used them quite a bit to) I’d perhaps just confirm the Oakley SKU: 101-117-007 with them.

    Thanks all. I popped into LBS at lunchtime to compare, and agree that the view through the PRIZM Road version is definitely nicer.

    On my face the Pitch lens shape works much better than the Path. I presumed that discounted the PRIZM Road since Oakley don’t have a Pitch option on their website, even as a replacement lens. (http://bitly.com/28O6ug1)

    So I’m intrigued by the link to exactly what I want at Cycle Store, I’m wondering if it’s a discontinued line?

    For summer use I’ve got Prizm

    For summer use I’ve got Prizm Road in my Flak Jacket XLJ, I normally have the Iridium Photochromic lens in year round but picked up a set of Prizm Road after reading glowing reviews and I have to agree they are good. They definitely improve the visibility of changes in the road surface.  I find they work best on bright days but are still ok when it’s overcast.

    Out of interest, do Oakley do

    Out of interest, do Oakley do a set of cycle frames that are more suited to large/wider heads?

    I take a 61-62cm in helmets and found some cycle glasses at the LBS that felt like they were gripping my temples in a vice after a few minutes.

    I have the Red Prizm road.

    I have the Red Prizm road. What’s interesting is just how wide a range of light they work well in. Wouldn’t change them.

    I tried 5 different Oakley

    I tried 5 different Oakley lenses (all EVZeros Path/Range) last month and kept two. Photochromic Range and Prizm Road Path. (The golf lens model really felt the worst to me surprisingly, the jade lens, which you have, was nice I thought).

     

    I use the Photochromic Range the most (clear lens, more adapatable, can wear in nearly all UK conditions and has a wider bridge which is actually pretty cool but looks goofy), but the Prizm Road is unbeatable. Riding in them feels heavenly. My eyes relax, everything on the road is easier to see. Hard to describe it actually. The resolution analogy above works for me.

     

    Would be hard for me to recommend any other lens than the Prizm Road now after riding in them. Wasn’t a huge believer, and definitely no Oakley fan (think Bolle is a cooler brand personally), but maybe I’m converted.

    I’m no expert, but I do have a pair of Oakleys with Prizm lens… they are the business, but then again all Oakley lenses are the business.

    I scratched mine within a month of owning them. After a few months of riding them with the scratch in front of my right eyeball and refusing to pay £80 for a new lense, I brought a pair of ‘FauxKleys’ for £14 which came with three different lenses. The fake lenses aren’t as good, but are perfectly acceptable and now I don’t have to think about them as much.

    My point being, don’t spend more on lenses unless you ‘want to’ or are fastidious with their care.

    I have recently been gifted a
    I have recently been gifted a set of prizm road lenses. My first impression is that it’s like upgrading from an Lcd tv to 4k ultra hi def. Everything becomes clearer to view in a variety of light conditions. I love them!
