Best 30c (ish) tyres – recommendations?

    Hi People

I’m just wondering whether anybody has any recommendations for a 30c tyre to go on my gravel bike.  The ones on there at the moment are the Conti Cyclocross speed 35c’s with wire bead and although they are ok, they feel quite heavy and not quite exactly what I’m after.  I’m really after a good fast tyre with a bit of volume that I can mainly use on the road but not be adverse to diverting onto some loose gravel paths etc.  At the moment I’m looking at the Challenge Strada Bianca’s and Schwalbe G-ones (which seem a bit pricey) but just wondering whether anybody has any other suggestions?

    Cheers

    Thanks for the replies, I’ve

Thanks for the replies, I’ve decided to go for the S-Ones and so ordered them from Rose Bikes (Nowhere has them in stock atm but apparently Rose are getting them in a week).  I know they said they’re easy to mount but I run a 29er wheelset in my bike so the rims are wide(I have 28c’s with tubes on atm)…gonna be interesting but that’s an entirely different discussion….

I put 32mm Gatorskins on lol.

I put 32mm Gatorskins on lol. I guess I ride more tarmac than dirt but it makes riding on trails fun.

Try Schwalbe Rapid Rob? Might be a bit too grippy probably better in spring/Autumn.

Yes I was looking at the S

Yes I was looking at the S-Ones too, and I kinda like the idea of going tubeless(or at least having that option).  Still pretty struck on the Strada’s also though, they seem to get plenty of good feedback.

    I used a pair of Schwalbe S

I used a pair of Schwalbe S-Ones (30mm) through most of the winter. They felt very good on all the surfaces I used them, wet tarmac, sand covered cycle paths and gritty/gravelly tracks and trails. Set up tubeless they rolled really well and I didn’t feel they were any slower than the Vittoria Open Pave’s (27mm) I had been using, in fact probably faster, plus they solved all my punture woes. Very pleased with them and convinced tubeless is the way to go if your rims are compatible.

I only took them off so I could fit some Pro-Ones (28mm) for the summer. The one concern I would have about the S-Ones is that the tread pattern does seem to wear fairly quickly on dry tarmac so I wanted to swap them out to save them from being worn away unnecessarily quickly. I guess thats part of what makes them so grippy, having a softish compound.

They will be going back on again next week for the White Roads gravel sportive where I expect them to be the perfect tyre for a mixed surface event, and I plan to use them again this winter.
