Hello fellow Team road.cc members,
My name is Ian, I live on the edge of the New Forest, Hampshire.
On 21st June it is the Summer Solstice. That night I will be riding an unsupported 100 mile adventure through the forest, from dusk till dawn.
The sun sets at about 2130 hrs with it getting dark around 2245 hrs.
It will start to get light around 0400 with the sunrise scheduled for 0500.
Luckily there will be a full moon that night so shouldn’t be too dark.
If any one would like to join me, let me know.
Like I say, this is unsupported ride, just me, my bike and the moon. Maybe the odd horse too.

It was great fun. I was very lucky with the weather, a completely calm, warm evening. Beautiful.
I started off around 10PM heading out into the forest just as light was starting to fade. By the time I was surrounded by tress it was night-time. and bloody hell was it dark!
Thank god for my lights (exposure 6pack). Although they were a blessing with a sting in the tail. The light lit up my path, but then attracted every signal bug, horse, cow, bat you could imagine!
At one point I was chasing a badger down a quiet unlit lane, next thing I knew the little bugger was chasing me! I had a few close-calls with some of the forest ponies, but overall, the wildlife were kind to me.
Probably my highlight was McDonalds at Christchurch. I got there around 1AM and saw the drive-thru was 24hrs. Perfect! Coffee! but no… apparently it is against their rules to service people on bicycles… Admittedly I did get a little bit rude with the lady but she was being an idiot. And maybe I was tired/sleep deprived… SO I went back to the car park and made “friends” with one of the boy racers. He very kindly went and bought a coffee for me and genuinely showed an interest in my little adventure (I reckon he had a thing for lycra).
So on my way I went, pats Lymington, on to Beauli. By this time it had clouded over and any residual light the moon was offering had departed. It was now very dark. Which happened to coincide with cycling past a field where a women was stabbed to death last year. Killer not found. So yeah, I freaked out a little bit, nearly hit a cow and pedalled fats than I have in a long time.
As the final 10 miles came into sight it started to get light. Dawn had arrived.
I got through my front door around 3:30AM, 76 miles complet, shower and bed. Then up at 7AM due to the bloody kids. No rest for the wicked.
Hopefully next year some of you guys can join me.
As for Phil, well he came out with every excuse under the sun not to participate, but I will leave him to explain his absence đŸ˜‰
That’s awesome. Perhaps next year with a bit of forward planning it could be a TeamRoad.cc adventure, even if we did it regionally. My biggest fear would be my lights running out of steam and crashing into a ditch/hedge/tree/dogger …

Pete, I’m a little scared now…Stu, If you decide to ride your own dusk till dawn over in Bath, you have to dressed as a druid. Solstice rules.
Sam, I have work the next day, revisiting my youth and pulling an slighter, just like when I was a student lol.

Tragic that it’s a Tuesday.
Tragic that it’s a Tuesday. If it was the weekend I would be there with you as it sounds like a decent ride and something off the wall. Would like to know your plans for a coffee stop!

That sounds a superb idea for a ride! I bet it’s dead spooky around those roads in the dead of night, I bet you’ll see some signs of life also, full of witches round there!

That sounds a terrible idea of a ride! I bet you’ll get trampled on by horses and spells cast on you by witches in the dead of night!
Best of luck, maybe I’ll join you next year (can’t this year #sadface)
