Jersey is too large – Can you shrink Lycra?

    I have bought a jersey which is a little too large. The next size down has sold out and I think the size below that will be too small. Can Lycra be shrunk – if so, how? Thanks.

    Well I’m keeping the ‘big for Dad’ jersey for myself and ordered him a smaller size.

     

    I shall now order far too big (my size) cycling clothes for my ‘loved’ ones now smiley

    As someone who sells used books, I can assure you the distance selling law applies fully to used goods.

    You might be confused with sales by private individuals selling their own privately used goods rather than a business. If you are not selling for profit, then they do not apply but there is no distinction used/new if sold by a business.

    I’ve just had this problem

    I’ve just had this problem with Father’s Day gift; a road jersey that should have a tight fit that looks pretty baggy for a large… Could be an XL.

    The shops locally to me will never stock that brand or 1/4 of the sale price, otherwise I’ll be happy to buy from them. 

    Oh well, a good winter jersey lol.

    Better going to your bike shop and try a jersey on. You may pay a little extra but it’s worth it for a good fit. Just a thought.

    It’s simple to infer that he bought the jersey online. If you buy goods online, it’s your legal right to a refund unless the product is damaged – it doesn’t matter if he’s worn it to try it on. I don’t see how it would have become damaged in the process of realising it was a little large.

    Amazing how – some – adults resort to thinly veiled insults to try and gain the upper hand in a discussion.

    Either way – continuing with the original and less facile discussion – attempting to shrink a jersey that’s too large is a poor decision. It’s unlikely to end up the correct size or quality.

    Is it some special edition you can’t get elsewhere or get a similar one of elsewhere? Send us a link. Unless it is very fitted and aero, you could just take in the sides with a internal pleat, tests your sewing skills.

    Here’s my tip.   The first jersey I bought after starting cycling is now too big because I’ve lost weight.

    It’s now big enough to wear over several base layers, so that in winter I can look like the sort of hard man who goes out wearing only a jersey in freezing conditions.
