Bit embarrassed to ask this but if anyone is going back to anywhere near a major train station after the Fred and would be willing to give me and the bike a lift to a train station that would be fantastic.

There are engineering works at Oxenholme so I can’t seem to work out a way to get home on my own steam. Liverpool, Warrington, Manchester, Preston basically anywhere I can get back to London that night.

I’m hoping to get round in about 9 hours so hopefully will be finished around 3 or 4

If you have any other suggestions I’d be grateful.

    Thanks in advance

    Andrew

    For online lift-hunting, try

For online lift-hunting, try http://www.blablacar.com. Maybe someone would divert off the M6 if you asked nicely.

You could see if the organisers or a local transport firm would help out – could be a bit of money in it for them if they could recruit a few more. Try www.westerndalesbus.co.uk.

If you can bag the bike in a compact form you might get away with the regular Stagecoach 555 service from Kendal to Lancaster – but that’s a risk and it might be better to check ahead with them. A ‘coach’ type bus would have space in the hold but not a regular town bus.

Or as CXR94Di2 suggested, car hire. If you took a train to Manchester Airport you could probably get a cheap car and be in the Lakes pretty quickly. You might even find someone else to help recoup the cost (blablacar again).
