So a couple of years ago I got a Dawes Galaxy via Cycle To Work and lost five stone (I had a good start point at 21.5st).
Fast forward to now and I think it is time for a new bike. Previously I wanted something bombproof for my bulk. Now I want something a little more fun – though I’m still 16st. My current bike weighs about 15kg so the only way is down.
I’m going to use Cycle To Work again – can’t beat the 42% saving. So have a budget of about £1000. I’d be prepared to top it up to a max of about £1150.
I’m keen on a 105 level groupset and would still like a bit I can use year round.
So what do people think on carbon vs aluminium at this point. I’m currently looking at the Ribble Sportive 365 as a carbon option or either the Pinnacle Dolomite 5 or Domane 2.3 for aluminium.
One of my fears re carbon is a winter write-off in a fall. But then concerned aluminium may still be harsh over distance.
Thanks in advance.
