I am looking for a road bike to use for general riding in winter and wet weather and more relaxed rides in the summer, So probably flat pedals.
I currently have a Sirrus as this bike but although it is comfortable and has full mudguards etc, i just find it a bit dull to ride and want soemthing less upright with drop bars(more comfortable hand positions) I would really like something thats not too ‘nice’ as i dont want to constantly worry about scraping it and cleaning it after every ride.
I have a Specialized Allez as my best bike and I love riding it and have upgraded it to a nice solid setup. I have it set in quite an agressive position with the stem as low as it will go with a -16 deg angle and 110mm length. Bars are still relatively compact though.
Ive looked at bikes with more endurance geometry & also traditional ‘race’ geometry and then just fitting a shorter stem and add spacers under if necessary.
Ive seen a Trek 1200 frame for sale in my size for £50 but wasnt sure how good a frame it is.
I am happy to build up a bike if necessary and i have a few old spares which would be fine for winter riding, wheels, STI’s, derailleurs, crankset and brakes.
I don’t want to spend too much probably £300 or so whether thats complete bike or frame and parts i dont already have.
Suggestions would be good on bikes which have decent clearence for guards and more relaxed style. (BTW i’m not tall looking around 52cm frame.)
