    Hi

i decided after being 1×11 on my mtb i would bite the bullet and try it on the road bike.

got a nice Aithien frame off ebay so looked to put it 1×11 with a combo of bits i had and a few new items. also decided to de-logo the finish kit for a bit of stealth.

oh ans although not in this pic also got a Fabric cageless bottle system.

bike is a 50cm aithien, mix of force/rival/xtr and pro vibe finish kit. weighed in 7.2kg without pedals.

    rival narrow/wide 50t front -11/40 rear

    rival 1 clutch mech

the gearing is excellent and silent running. real obvous holes in the ratios got a crazy easy first gear and top gear is still like a compact.

was supposed to be 52t front but would have involved trying to get a new 130bcd spider from Rotor.

I like the idea of 1x drivetrains, but don’t think the benefits are real. I like the way that Aithein looks in the middle but the cassette and chain – line look hideous! I’d rather have a smaller cassette (and mech) and a decent pair of cranks. It ain’t broke…

    The 11-40 gives you 33 – 120″, according to Sheldon’s calculator. Wow!

I use the same xtr cass on my cxr linked to 50-34 chainset. Literally go up any gradient of hill with easy spin action. I had a custom hanger fabricated to accommodate the cassette with a gs di2 derailleur. Nice setup you have there.
