    Mason has some new wheels

Mason has some new wheels that look sexy that I’m ruminating on:

    http://www.huntbikewheels.com/collections/wheels/products/50-carbon-wide-disc-road-wheelset-1612g-50deep-26wide-999

I’ve been looking at getting some deep section disc wheels, it’s a little bit of a minefield though with very limited reviews out there and the different standards around bolt-though vs QR and centrelock discs vs the 6 bolt standard.

    Here are a few:

I’ve got the DTSwiss Spline R23 wheels atm, which are nice enough – but I quite fancy the deep section look (and theoretical performance benefits) – I’m quite happy to admit it’s as much about the look as anything else for me.

I have a set of Reynolds

I have a set of Reynolds assault slg disc carbon wheels for 1K on my good bike and a set of Novatec cxd disc brake wheels for £300 on my work bike

Both sets of wheels are good, spin lovely and have stayed true all year

No annoying freehub skips or any issues whatsoever

    the Reynolds weigh 1565 grams

the Novatec’s come in at 1445 grams

Although the Reynolds are over 100 grams heavier than the Novatechs they look alot better on the bike and being 40mm deep are meant to help when your going over 18mph

(they just look real preeeety on the bike)

I got some DT Swiss R23

I got some DT Swiss R23 SPLINE DBs on my Rose cross bike.

They are very nice, definitely worth a look.

we are very much on the same

we are very much on the same page!  As I write these I have open tabs on both the Hunt/ Mason and Stans Grails that you mention!  The stolen bike was a Kinesis Tripster ATR, and will probably go with the same Ti frame with 105 and Shimano hydro brakes (though tempted  by ultegra Di2/ hydro) (last build was 105 and cable disc brakes).  Last wheels were the Kinesis CX Crosslight, but feel I can do a bit better this time.

I wouldn’t spend that much on
I wouldn’t spend that much on wheels. Less than half that will get a very nice pair. Hunt do some nice wheels for £350+ discs and tyres. Stans grail wheels are 495. Spend money on better frame or uprating groupset to hydraulic/di2
