mudguards- PDW full metal fenders? or something else

    As winter approaches…

    The PDW Full Metal Fenders look like the least uncool full mudguards available.

    Does anyone have any experience of them- pros and cons?

    In particular, any problems fitting with disc brakes.

    Or alternative recommendations.

    I run these on my winter bike
    I run these on my winter bike with conventional rim brakes, superb bit of kit and dead easy to fit, I have no problem with my 25mm 4 seasons.

    They are really designed for
    They are really designed for frames with short drop rim brakes and no mudguard eyelets on the frame but they do look good. I’ve got them on my Specialized Allez and they are a lot more robust than the alternatives such as the SKS equivalent guards (which cracked after six months) or crud catchers, but as timbola points out the 23mm tyre size limit is realistic.

    You may have issues with the
    You may have issues with the front stays being too long even when fully
    compressed if you have mounts part way up the fork leg like my mason.
    Also, on frames designed for bigger tyres the front guards’ top mount is
    too short in some instances. They do make a longer one, just can’t seem
    to find anyone with it in stock.

    Currently running SKS Longboards – very effective when paired with a
    couple of SKS “Slurry flaps” !!!!!

    I have these on my “winter”
    I have these on my “winter” bike, albeit NOT a disc-braked machine. They look very smart and I do love them, but had to revert to 23mm tyres (as per the spec, to be honest), having attempted to fit 25mm Conti 4 seasons. I might be able to squeeze 25mm tyres but my Forme aluminium frame has a slightly weird-shaped underbelly to the brake bridge which may require a little doctoring of the rear mudguard.
    Oh, and they have received some nice comments, too – always a plus !
