Now I am not saying anything happened, but… I was cycling home from work, taking the short way home because my rings are knackered. I was crossing a little junction in West Didsbury that is slightly offset to the left. There was no cars but a green light, and I was just cruising, not going too fast. Now I know this junction and know that vehicles turning right in front of me like to just nip around the corner as the turn favours them. I see a moped coming up to the junction as I am crossing the green, he is clearly turning right, and I am like ‘Is this guy gonna stop… [I just ease off, not even braking] No of course not.’ He scoots around the corner right in front of me.
So nothing happened right? I was familiar with the junction and avoided a danger and almost encouraged the moped rider to turn by not charging right at him.
Well I saw that the moped rider was a Deliveroo guy and had a learner plate. I have see more and more of these guys and they are zooming around the place, cutting up Audis at the lights by pulling away quickly. I was starting to think it was inevitable I would have a close call with one of them, not that this was bad. But I am expecting more of this kind of thing the way they cut through traffic. They seem to be the Uber of fast food delivery, seem to come from a *cough* certain demographic of young men and many have learner plates (no supervision I see, not sure how that works.) Seem like their profession doesn’t owe itself to promoting road safety; there is a certain inevitability that I am going to encounter the aftermath of something involving one of them or be the aftermath. As the Stereophonics once said “The more you fly the more you risk your li-i-ya-i-ife.”
Anyone else had a run in with these jokers?
