Annoying Buzz / Rattle

I have Shimano Claris shifters & on the shifter on the left hand side only there is an annoying buzz coming from it particularly on not great road surfaces.

I thought initially it was coming from the plastic name plate on the top but now I’m convinced it’s coming from where the cable goes into the shifter itself at the side.

Anyone experienced anything similar & had any success in getting rid of it?

Managed to get a bit of tape
Managed to get a bit of tape round where the cable enters the shifter on the side which hasn’t made a blind bit of difference, still a very annoying buzz sound coming from 1 side.

Could try a bit more tape I guess but as I discovered if you put too much on, when you put the cable back into the shifter the tape just comes away & is bunched up at the end of the cable.

Not sure what to try next………if anything ~X(

    Cheers I’ll bear that in
Cheers I’ll bear that in mind.

Managed to loosen the cable & reseat it in the housing so I’ll take it out for a spin & see if there’s any improvement. If not I’ll go with the poster above suggestion & try a bit of tape around it to see if that will stop it.

If none of that works, no idea!

There is a washer type thing
There is a washer type thing in side just below the top plastic cover which rattles of my shifts, drives me potty at times it could also be the cause of your buzz. Just another suggestion.

I was hoping to avoid having to do that if it was reasonably simple to do as a novice.

Anyone able to point me in the direction of an idiots guide how to do this before I inevitably break something? :))

I need to have a go because it’s getting a bit irrittating now but sounds a bit complicated for a novice like me…… 😕

On my Claris shifters I think it’s due to the cable outer rattling in the port where it enters the shifter. I might try to fix it by putting some electrical tape round the cable end so it’s a bit fatter and doesn’t have so much room to move in there.

It’s deffo coming from where the cable enters the shifter itself I’m sure of it. Maybe as you suggest it’s worth reseating the cable or wrapping some tape around it.

Is it just a case of pulling the cable hard (ish) & it will come out of the shifter? Never removed it before. Didn’t want to break it!
