LBS recommends buying Groupset online :S

Phoned a bike shop I haven’t used before today to try and find out what their prices would be for two groupsets I am looking at; Ultegra 6800 and SRAM force 22. The guy suggested that I buy the group online and they would then fit it as they can’t compete with online prices. I’m currently using a 10 speed shimano 105 mix with crap axis brakes in 52/36 and 12-28 cassette. Any suggestions for where to look online? Can’t seem to find SRAM force in 53/39 172.5mm BB30 fit anywhere which is what I would really like. Will 53/39 be a bad idea? Would 175mm cranks make any difference? A typical ride for me at the minute would be anything between 30-50miles, 2000-3000ft climbing and I want to race next year.

    I just built a bike with force22 (34/50, its hilly where I live and i’m definitely not 65kg! :)) ).

It seems a well made group, works very well when set up correctly and looks good, the doubletap takes a bit of getting used to if thats new to you, but it doesn’t take long.

I’d be slightly curious about the chainrings on that 36/52 chainset as sram themselves don’t seem to offer the 36/52 as an option on force22, or at least they didn’t a few months back.

I bought mine elsewhere as I wanted hydraulic brakes, but that link is as cheap as I could find it too

Thanks! Tried google but couldn’t come up with as much as I was expecting lol ended up going for Sram force 52/36 175mm with 11-28 cassette from merlincycles. I don’t know why but I just liked it more. Figured it would be better to stick with what I know with the 52/36. I’m 6ft 65kgs like the climbing too lol

    Maybe try googling for
    Maybe try googling for them….
By the sounds of your rides with a decent amount of vertical it depends on how strong/fit you are and what kind of climbs they are as to whether a standard chainset will work for you. I’m a cat a racer with a climbers build and find a 52/36 plenty and rarely spin out (only happened once on the flat whilst riding with a full time pro).
If you are happy with your current gearing use that (and maybe get an 11-28 cassette if you want).
Out of those groupsets I’d get the ultegra, then sell the chainset brand new and buy a SRAM red one for the bb30.

    Here is
    Here is sram

53/39 won’t be a problem if you are strong else then you could go 52t or compact 50t
