    Hi all. Looking to upgrade my stock Maddux RS 3.0 wheels, what good value wheel sets can anyone recommend for about 50-60 miles per week.

    Also what is a good choice for a winter tyre?

    I have just received some Shimano RS010 wheels for £70. I thought they would be average in quality, but was pleasantly surprised how nice they look, roll OK too.

    Schwalbe Durano or Marathon plus for puncture protection

    I’ve only had one puncture in
    I’ve only had one puncture in 3 sets of Duranos and that was me not paying attention and running over a drinks can. Equally my gatorskins have been just as good too.

    Fulcrums are popular on here. I am happy with my Shimano wheels. The many previous discussions on this popular subject can be found via https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=site:road.cc+wheel+upgrade

    For tyres Durano Plus have super puncture resistance but roll better than Marathons. However, not everyone wants such heavy duty protection. I’m currently using Michelin Pro4 Endurance. The standard Schwalbe Durano seem very similar, both cope with year-round riding on Shropshire lanes.

    For me, the biggest issue in winter is not getting punctures. If that’s your priority as well then Schwalbe Marathon Plus are great, once you work out how to get them on 😉 (hint – toestraps/zipties if you get stuck and need another hand)

    For wheels I dunno, what’s your budget?
