Anyone succesfully reproofed a Rapha Wind Jacket?

    I have had my Rapha Wind Jacket about a year, and it is no longer very water resistant. I tried washing and reproofing, both using Nikwax products, but the results aren’t brilliant – my old Pertex jacket used to reproof more succesfully.

    Has anyone else managed to do this successfully? Do you think trying Grangers products might be worth a go (I think one of theirs is heat activated)?

    The Rapha jacket seems to have larger, more irregular, holes in the weave compared to the Pertex, which are finer and more regular. I wonder if this has anything to do with it…

    All help, advice or abuse gratefully recieved!

    Re-proofing only works for a
    Re-proofing only works for a short time anyway – maybe a year at most if it’s the first re-proof, after that it gets less and less effective each time.

    Wash it in Tech Wash then in use TX Direct wash in. Make sure before you do this that the washing machine is clean and doesn’t have any old detergent or softener in it.
    I then added to that by using this spray on stuff:
    Motorcycle Rider Care
    Currently out of stock everywhere due to one magazine review that said how brilliant it was and that was it, every shop sold out!

    It’s fantastic though, I’ve just washed and re-proofed all my softshell, waterproof and windproof gear ready for winter and that combination of wash, re-proof, spray has worked miracles.

    Thanks for the help everyone. Strangely reassured to hear that it’s not just me that has this problem. I had a reply from Rapha, who suggest using their own brand reproofer. I will probably try that.

    Reproofing it definitely helped a tiny bit, but literally only a tiny bit…

    I’ve never successfully reproofed any waterproof jacket… šŸ™

    Splashed out on a Gore Path jacket last year and tried washing and reproofing that according to the instructions, and it didn’t work (I think it didn’t anyway – I’m a very sweaty rider, and I’m not about to start licking the inside of the jacket to test for salt… šŸ˜‰ )

    I’d be amazed if Rapha did
    I’d be amazed if Rapha did anything other than advise using their own reproofing product, which I’ve used on mine a couple of times and, like Mike, had reasonable success.

    I had reasonable success
    I had reasonable success using Rapha’s own reproofing spray. Still a long way from waterproof but it did restore it’s water resistance for a while.
