Summer commuting jacket

    Can anyone suggest a hi-viz/fluorescent commuter cycling jacket that’s suitable for the summer?

    I have one of those Night Vision Evo jackets – which is great for the autumn/winter/spring – but its too hot, bulky and not sufficiently breathable for the summer.

    Many thanks for any advice.

    With your situation, I’d just

    If I had to cycle dressed like this, I’d just get an ultra-thin “pac-a-mac” type jacket for £20-£40 (Decathlon do one at the lower end, you should find a mid-level brand like Altura Pocket Rocket at the upper), slow down, but keep a spare shirt at work for the cloudburst occasions.

    (oh, and I’d suggest rainlegs for the trousers)

    Rain jackets are always going to be problematic then. The Event jackets like the Castelli Muur are great, or you could go Gabba. I think Rapha do a light weight rain jacket, but chances are you will sweat. I would ditch the shirt and tie and put them on when you arrive. You’ll at least have dry clothes.

    couldn’t put it better myself. If you need long sleeves in summer you’re just not cycling hard enough… In fact you don’t need to be cycling hard for it to be weird to have long sleeves.

    Just wear a short sleeve
    Just wear a short sleeve jersey.

    I wear now climbers jersey and it is perfect. Jacket of any kind is an over kill. Gellet are not recommended either.

    I always find a jacket too
    I always find a jacket too hot from Spring to Autumn. A short sleeve jersey, arm warmers and a packable gilet is a nice flexible combination, the arm warmers and gilet fit into the jersey pockets when it is nice.

    I can recommend the Endura
    I can recommend the Endura Xtract. Great lightweight jacket for summer downpours or over a thicker jersey in the winter months.
