So what’s next for team road.cc – why don’t you tell us what you want.

Before we started the club we surveyed roadcc users to find out what they would want from a road.cc club and they told us they were interested in discounts and  team rideouts. Now that we’ve set up Team road.cc it seems sensible to ask you the actual members that question again. We know you want discounts, and we’re organising a schedule of ride-outs, but what else would you like us to do as a club?

    Here’s some of our suggestions
    – industry tech talks, where we get designers and tech guys from some of the big cycling brands to explain the technology behind their latest products.
    – film nights (that’ll be cycling films)
    – regular members only team Q&A sessions where you can ask us your tech questions or where we can discuss other cycling related topics in live forum discussions.
    – road.cc shirt relay (where we send a shirt out and you members take it all around the UK)

Those are our suggestions we’d like to know what you think of them and we’d like to hear your’s too.

As someone who puts in the
As someone who puts in the miles commuting but is time poor at the weekend, I haven’t been involved in a club since uni three years ago.
I’d love to get into racing but have no idea how or where to start and feel like the only way in is regular club riding which so far is out of the question.
I’d really like a little gathering where people could be introduced to their first road race, similar to a track day I suppose. Just a way to show us the ropes so that if we like it we could come back and do it off our own backs or make it a regular event.
It would be great if we could get a showing of Road.cc jerseys competing at local events and flying the flag, with experienced riders sharing what they know with youngsters.

Otherwise, I’d be interested in talks or proper maintenance classes. Not just how to change a puncture (although I appreciate some people can’t do this). I’ve built half a dozen bikes up but he no idea if I’ve done it properly.

I also think it would be great if members could have the chance to review kit or maybe test some of the bikes which come in. It would be amazing if you could borrow a swanky bike for a ride or a week, especially if you’re looking to buy a new one. Like a try-before-you-buy library of kit.

    Some non-clothing
Some non-clothing merchandise, I’m drowning in jerseys and kit already but something at the cafe that would show my allegiance, maybe a cash/card wallet, or some form of ICE band?

    Guide to jerseys and what
Guide to jerseys and what they mean and how they’re won? That’s easy. In fact there was a video on YouTube I linked to loads of non cycling friends for the 2012 TDF just so they knew what was going on

    The Road.cc jersey and socks
The Road.cc jersey and socks somehow colour co-ordinates with my Rapha Team Sky Pro bibs….but I can’t help thinking they’d be better with Road.cc shorts…oh, with at least a 20% discount… <:P

    I like a lot of Peted76
    I like a lot of Peted76 comments.

The shirt relay sound like good fun.

Some big long rides/events would be good also.

Another idea, although not a clue how you would do it… some sort of interactive map to show club member locations (optional of course).

My thinking behind this is that if I fancy going for a ride around Surrey, would be good to make some sort of contact with a local roadcc member. Equally if another roadcc member wanted to meet up with me around the new forest, the interactive map would serve as a good way to “connect” us all.

Having a club like this that is spread through-out the entire country serves as a perfect opportunity to get out there and discover new places. What better way to do that than with other roadcc members that know the local area.

As a fellow who’s time poor
As a fellow who’s time poor and also quite unorganised, I need my better half to tell me what I can and can’t do, when. I’m sure (excluding wippersnappers), I’m not the only one.

I’d like a calendar of schedule of ride-outs around the country at ‘special’ places.
e.g. Cheddar Gorge (I know I know), The Tumble, Buttertubs… etc etc… places with a bit of special about them.. these are all places I’d like to ride that I’d book a weekend for, that aren’t at the ends of the earth to get to.
You could pitch them as ‘road.cc curated rides’ and ask locals to send you the routes to choose from.
You could add a bit of value by organising a discount at local camp/ glamp /caravan / cheap country hotels sites for us to congregate and meet at. (I’ve just organised a golf day at Hellingdon Lakes and the golf club hotel did a deal for £65 a night – good rolling countryside & roads round them parts.)

I’d see real value in an event (ideally a ride out) where at the end participants could get hold of some kit seconds, samples, sale items from clothes manufacturers, better if they’re British brands such as Rapha, Morvelo, Howies, Primal, Endura.

As much as I’d come to a ‘film night’ if I were local to Bath, I’m not and it seems a bit of a faff to sit in a room for a couple of hours for.

Regular members only team Q&A sessions where you can ask us your tech questions or where we can discuss other cycling related topics in live forum discussions – This could be interesting, but as we’re all internet based, doh! again it seems a bit of a faff for something that ‘probably’ just as easily found out on t’internet.

road.cc shirt relay (where we send a shirt out and you members take it all around the UK) – seems a nice idea to keep it moving around parts of the country, could makes an excuse to meet up with the next person.. or what about a geo-cache style game with it?

A road.cc cap could be a good addition to most stylish cyclists wardrobes, could be like a mason’s handshake to a fellow club member.

Maybe do an annual long distance event such as London to Paris or Bristol to Bruge (I made the last one up) in conjunction with an existing event organiser you get some places for a ‘team’ in exchange for a publicity contra and editorial deal?

I’d like to see a local club ride feature on the site, a bit like the Cycling Weekly ones they do.

I’m gutted I missed the track
I’m gutted I missed the track day and look forward to coming on the next one with a bit more notice. I’m near Lee Valley velodrome and hoping to make headway with the accreditation this Winter. I got to stage 2/4 last year. Not sure I could race on track, but it’s got to better training there than on a turbo all Winter!!

How about entering a challenge ride? You’ve posted about the Brands 24hr race, what about entering a team in the Nocturne next year? folding bike race or Boris bikes?

That’s riding bikes, what about watching other people ride bikes, supporting the sport, helping it grow.

Organise a members group to visit stages of the Tour of Britain? I’ve been mostly with family and spent the entire time trying to explain why its such a big deal! It’d be nice to go with a group. the same thing would be great with things like the National championships, both road and track. The Revolution series, the Pearl Izumi Tour series, The Nocturne, The London 6 days (sorry to sound like a trackie, but most of the things I’m planning to go watch at the moment seem to be indoors at this stage of the year and they are more fun to watch IMO as you get to watch the whole thing, not just a few seconds of jerseys flashing past- I’m not completely into track, I’m actually planning to race closed road circuits next year). I have several friends that are planning to go and ride the World Amateur Roads in September thanks to qualifying in the Tour of Cambs, I’m sure they’d appreciate some home team support (although 3 are originally from Colombia and one is technically Welsh, the others are English and they all have UK passports).

I’d also really, really like to ride a derny!!
