car pushed to kerb then slammed his brakes on skidding taking me off

    riding home from the erocia I overtook another cyclist, car behind then me hung on his horn I swore at him he then pulled along side me and attempted to squash me into the kerb I braked so I was clear and behind him, he then slammed his brakes on causing me to go into the back of him wrecking my bike in the process. the first sentence he said was” oh god i’m sorry “. in the car was his partner and children I was very annoyed and called him everything from a pig to a dog with a lot of swearing. when the police arrived they were more interested in my public order offense and wanted to give me a fixed penalty for swearing in front of his missus and kids. I have a witness to the incident and pictures of the skid marks the car left on the road. the only point I want to make is when did the victim become guilty it has made me think about cycling and what to do as this is the second time in 6 months I been brought off my bike 🙁

    I braked to pull back there was another cyclist behind me and as I passed the back end of the car he slammed his brakes on gps was 23 mph and I clipped the corner wrecking the front wheel and bending the forks and ended up on the grass bank with the other guy with me

    Didn’t you see the ‘baby on board’ stickers on the asshat’s back window? The safety of his family is obviously of paramount importance to him; you should have adjusted your following distance so as not to put them in danger.

Not saying he is not an arsehole, but, one an arsehole reveals himself I try to stay as far far away as possible.

    Unfortunately this is the sort of thing that the Police deal with all the time. The most exciting / terrifying thing that happened to you this year is boring run of the mill stuff to them. They turn up, keep the peace, take some statements, clear away the debris and go home, job done. The brutal fact is that no-one really cares about you or your bike.

    I fully empathise with anyone who throws a wobbly when the adrenalin is pumping, I am appalling in any verbal confrontation, my IQ drops by at least 50% and my available lexicon reduces to some choice swear words whilst I literally foam at the mouth. It’s utterly pathetic. However, your experience and many others reported on this page point to a simple truth. You are far more likely to be treated with sympathy by the authorities if they turn up and don’t find an angry ranting person that they need to calm down before they can get any sense of what has occurred.

    I really wish you well in getting your bike repaired / replaced. The picture of the skid marks is very damming, from what you say and the pictures you have posted, a really vicious and unnecessary piece of driving to deliberately cause an accident.

    Neatly encapsulates how screwed up things are these days.

    Get some legal advice ASAP from someone who is well versed in this area. BC and CTC members have free access to such services.

    If that doesn’t work then go round to his house and leave him a note telling him that, if you ever see his wife or child on the road, you’ll drive the same way he did. And if they get injured or killed it certainly won’t be your fault. I’m sure the police will support you all the way 🙁

    my bike was damaged and needs repairing the witness is the other cyclist who told me he had never seen anything like that “he could have killed you ” the statements have already been taken and I am in the ctc so have informed their legal service

    You will need to get a clear
    You will need to get a clear witness statement siding with you. Do you have cycle insurance. ?

    Without doing character assassination, do you think the driver has valid insurance? I would not be surprised their story will change once away from the scene.

    Watch out the police don’t charge you.( Solicitor /witness will help enormously) and ignore the collision part!
