    just like to say i am over the moon with these two books, wife bought me the first at xmas, 2nd last week …. completed 6 hills this year in Walse , Brighton and gloucestershire……. and they are hills…… 4 in first book and 2 in 2nd….. the pictures are so real…. thank you Simon and Wife … next hills are around Leyburn between Lake district and the yorkshire dales rgds Ade

    I have been training on hills of various types, from huge alpine to short steep hills to improve my conditioning, then the other day, I did a 10mile time trial with it and averaged 25mph. So it can do it all if needed, spin up 40% hills or speed work. I still prefer a close ratio cassette for flat courses, so much easier to keep in my power band.

    The author is kind about a lot of hills. For example, the three in Surrey: Box Hill, White Down Lane and Coldharbour/Leith Hill are pimples compared to Hardknott etc.

    hmm – didn’t seem that short to me when i attempted it, but then i’d sooner go for a longer climb with ramps that stay below 30% than a ‘shorter’ one like Hardknott.

    But the biggest problem with that one is the descent the other side – horrible!

    Keep these hill names coming,
    Keep these hill names coming, I’ll just search for the file and cycle it on my Kickr đŸ™‚ Hardknott is a stiff climb but shortish in duration. By far the hardest hill I have tried is Ventoux, for shear relentless climbing. The Zoncalon is the steepest with 40+% sections.

    That’s what it’s all about. Went up Whitedown yesterday (8/10), and one of my proudest moments on a bike was getting up Bushcombe Lane near Cheltenham (10/10). One day, after long meditation has brought me to an appropriate level of Zen mastery, I intend to attempt Bealach na Ba (11/10).
