No Bristol Biggest Bike Ride 2015?

    Has anyone heard anything about why there is no BBBR 2015? I’ve only recently moved to Bristol, so last year was the first time I took part, but it was a nice opportunity to get onto closed roads for a day. I was under the impression this was a regular event, going on the best part of 20 years.

    A post on the council website dated today says that “Sky Ride Bristol has taken over from the successful Bristol’s Biggest Bike Ride”. (http://www.bristol.gov.uk/press/get-your-bikes-sky-ride-bristol)

    This seems like a poor replacement. A 7.5km loop in the center of Bristol replacing a choice of routes, with the longest a ~60km scenic route starting in, but heading out of, the city.

    Its a pity. Have the powers that be said that this is a one-off takeover, or a permanent thing? BBBR used to offer several different routes which took you out of the city, and the shortest one (the easy one for families) was out to Avonmouth and back on the Portway. Which is longer than 7.5 km.

    I’m missing BBBR this year
    I’m missing BBBR this year too. I have done the 40, closer to 37, mile ride most years. The Sky Ride date clashes with Weston Air Day with the last chance to see the Vulcan in the air so will ride down and back providing I can swing the day off work.
    The Sky Ride is a poor substitute and could have been held in place of one of the shorter BBBR routes.
