Bont shoe fitting

    Looking at Bont Vaypor + or Sprint.

    I’ve tried some on, generally feel OK apart from the arch area, where they seem to be pushing in on the side of the foot, towards the front of the arch.

    Anyone else experienced this? Can that be moulded out? Or is that a sign of a bad fit and time to move on to a different shoe?

    Next option would be Spesh S-Works.

    I found the Bony Vaypor easy
    I found the Bony Vaypor easy enough to mould when I got an accurate thermometer (£5 amazon). This showe my ovensettings to be 10 degrees C out. Taped some gauze aroung hotspots on toes under cycling socks.
    Get the shoes on as quick as possible & stand in them for >10 mins whilst they cool. Did a great job with two rounds of this & no scewdriver needed. Fit like a glove!

    The arches in the Bonts are
    The arches in the Bonts are either “very supportive” or “downright intrusive” depending on your arch. For me there were pretty good out of the box but even then the top of the tub on the inside bruised my foot a little so I moulded them to bend that out.

    I think my Bont Vaypor+ have spent about 10 hours in the oven as I’ve moulded and re-moulded them again and again. The problem I have is hobbit-like super-wide feet and nothing else fits me. Even a wide needed some tweaking.

    They can be real ***tards to mould, but once you figure it out they can be shaped quite a few mm in every direction. At first I tried again and again at 80-100C until my LBS told me that the trick is to push out the specific area and then hold it in place as it cools. This is very uncomfortable to do at 100C so I ordered a wood+steel shoe stretcher to load them up when hot. This worked perfectly and now they are spot on for me needs – and at least 5mm wider than at the start. The only problem is that I’ve now flattened the arches a bit so I’m using innersoles for more support.

    I have a pair of Bont Vaypor+
    I have a pair of Bont Vaypor+ shoes that had a poor fit, specially on the arches. I’ve heat moulded once and problem solved. Now it’s the most comfortable pair of shoes I’ve ever had. They’re super light and very stiff too. In sum it’s a great piece of kit.

    Bobster, talk to Nick at Sigma (there’s more than one Nick there but ask for the show guru and they’ll know who you mean) , he was really helpful in trying to get my Bonts to fit despite me not buying them there.

    I had that problem with the
    I had that problem with the arch area too. I ended up having to push it out with the rounded end of a big screwdriver. Took a few goes to get it right.

    had a problem with the tub
    had a problem with the tub “digging” into the head of the 5th metatarsal. no amount
    of molding helped so went to s-works. slipper like doesn’t do them justice 🙂

    I didn’t find the vaypor +
    I didn’t find the vaypor + that mouldable. Is the pain under the foot, side or the upper? The carbon bath tub extends part way up, is very thick and IME responded less well to multiple moulding attempts than the sole itself. If they actually hurt to start with, I’d steer clear.

    Giro empire have been a revelation, slightly less stiff but so comfortable.
