My riding buddy has just spent several days in hospital with D&V, severe headache and swollen joints, probably caused by a bug she picked up on the Round the Isle of Wight ride where overnight rain left suspicious brown mud at the entrance to various farms. We think a bug splashed onto her drinks bottle; an instance where cheaper bottles like Decathlon’s, with a protective top, seem to give an advantage over expensive ones. I have ordered a cover for my Camelback bottle; with no front mudguard and a bottle on the down tube you are in effect applying an aerosol, and farmers are busily applying slurry to the fields at the moment. Lesson learnt.
