help with campag SR dual pivot brakes!!

    Hi everyone,
    My long term goal of upgrading my wilier from chorus to super record is almost there đŸ™‚ the final lives being some SR dual pivot brakes…I’ve swapped campag brakes before on my old bike so I know the basics, but I’m having a fair bit of grief from the front brake. Basically, there’s not enough clearance between the top of the tyre and the brake housing, so the tyre is rubbing. As far as I can see in my limited ability , if I pull the cable through and clamp it tightly they’re is clearence but then of course the brake blocks are tight on the rims…
    Knowing me, there’s obviously something obvious I’ve missed, so if anyone can help, that would be great!!!

    the next thing then is to try 25mm tyre specific rims (wider) as the narrow rims are ballooning the corsa tyre giving it extra height

    As it turns out, the Vittoria corsa tyres I run are simply too big, with too high a profile. I’ve swapped the front one for a 23mm version and it fits with about 8mm clearance.
    Now I just have to see if I like the 23mm tyre, or try and find a 25mm with a much lower profile.

    Sounds like the barks but may have not fully seated in the brake bridge….
    Other than that I don’t see what the issue could be, perhaps the geometry of the calipers is a different to the previous chorus brakes

    Hi guys, obviously my
    Hi guys, obviously my description was poor!!! Basically the new brake callipers are securely fitted with the correct retaining bolt, the blocks are in the correct position and the barrel adjuster is at its lowest position meaning the blocks are as far from the rim as possible (I appreciate this may not be the correct terminology!) The problem ( which I didn’t have with the chorus brakes the bike came with) is that the top of the tyre is rubbing against the bottom side of the brake bridge. With the old chorus brakes, there was about 3mm clearance…
    I have tried using either none, 1 or 2 of the toothed washers and it makes no difference. It seems too be that the callipers need to be squeezed onto the rim in order to give any clearance, but then obviously, the rim won’t move!!
    Same tyres (Vittoria ) same wheels (shamal ultra) …

    From your description I’m not entirely sure what your issue is ie is the tyre rubbing on the caliper at the mounting bolt or are the brake blocks struggling to clear the tyre when you pull the lever? I don’t know what you mean by “brake housing”.

    We might need further description of the problem.

    Anyway, here’s some things to check regardless:

    Is the caliper fully and properly mounted in the fork? ie. Is it securely bolted in with no play?
    Did you use the toothed washers between caliper and fork and if so, how many?
    Are the brake blocks properly adjusted in the caliper arms? ie. If there was no tyre in the rim, would they line up with the rim’s brake track?
    Is the front wheel properly mounted in the fork when this occurs?

    I’m assuming that you’ve not whacked a different tyre on as well? What size is the tyre you’re using? Also what is the rim/wheel? Eg are you running a 28mm tyre on a 13mm ID rim?

    Do you mean there isn’t enough clearance between the tyres and thebbrake caliper?
    I don’t see how the cable is anywhere near the tyres?? đŸ˜•
