Year Record: is Ironox challenge for real?

I’ve been following the year record attempts with great interest. Although each route and equipment are unique and to be honest not really comparable with Godwin’s record, kudos to Steven Abraham and Kurt Searvogel who are each doing it their own way. It could be argued that our Steve is a bit more authentic, taking on the UK weather and hills but he still has a modern bike, clothes and nutrition to get him there. No doubt if he can keep going for another *gulp* ten and a half months he will grab the record before Searvogel sets his own rangy American record. They are both ahead of Godwin’s average and way ahead of Godwin’s distances for this time of year. With some long summer months ahead all they have to do is keep going!

Some very industrious people are tracking them. Now I have to admit I knew nothing about Steve or Kurt before this started, but there is a third name on this challenge: William ‘Ironox’ Pruett. At the moment he has ‘only’ done 1725miles, well behind Godwin’s record, and nowhere near the other two. He is about to drop off the bottom of the above graph. I don’t understand why this is considered a serious bid. There are some people on the Metric challenge page here who would give this guy a run for his money and still do a days work [disclaimer: not me.] Unless he is planning 500mile days all summer long it is already too late. He is already over 6000miles behind Kurt. He has already had two rest days so can’t even say he was an alsoran who rode every day for a year, he has just ridden quite far. Anyone know anything else about this guy and why he is considered to be ‘in’ the challenge?

    Apparently he is taking it
Apparently he is taking it easy and then going to ramp up the mileage but as stated it is going to be too late even if he did do 500 mile days later on because the other 2 will be doing 300 mile min days in the high summer.
