wheelset advice.

    After some cheapish upgrade wheels and I suppose it has come down to the usual mid point wheelsets.

    Shimano rs81 c24
    fulcrum racing 3
    campagnolo zonda

    and…

    swissside gotthard

    or based on a recent review on another of their wheelsets;

    superstar components elite 24.

    If anyone has an opinion on any of these I would be keen to hear it.

    Also, would I be shot for having Campy wheels on a shimano shod bicycle?

    Any Campag component gets you
    Any Campag component gets you kudos from those in the know, if you would rather have the Zonda’s no one will laugh.

    If you use the Zonda though you will limit your choice of cassettes, expecially as ideally you want one the Miche ones that fit campag hubs but match shimano spacing and pattern.

    Fulcrum is Campag, rather than one supplying the other, there is a lot a of rim and hub sharing in the wheel game, but I can’t think of a big brand that buys whole wheelsets from someone else.

    Have you considered handbuilt wheels?

    They are much the some money as factory wheels and if you get to know the builder, you usually get free adjustment for life.

    Usual think with handbuilt is to put a few undred miles on them, go back for a coffee and get them re-trued, as by that time they are fully bedded in.

    I thought it was a bit like
    I thought it was a bit like socks and sandals. Sure, you are more comfortable in socks and you have the extra breathability with sandals, but it does not mean that you look good.

    I did not know that fulcrum were campag- does anyone else make anyone else’s?

    No one has said anything to me about 105 with campy bullets or zondas.

    If you want Campy wheels on a Shimano shod bike, then get the Fulcrum’s. The Fulcrum company was set up by Campagnola for that very reason. I can’t compare the other wheels but have the racing 3’s and they seem bullet proof.
