Mechanical Dura-Ace or Di2 Ultegra?

    I am planning to order a shiny new bike this month and have whittled the list down to 2 options. The first is a Merida Reacto DA with mechanical Dura-Ace, the 2nd is a Bottecchia T1 Tourmalet with Di2 Ultegra. Both are around the same price and I’d be happy with either. The only thing now stopping me from hitting the ‘confirm order’ button is which groupset to go with? Does anyone have experience of both and offer any thoughts? I’ve tried the Ultegra Di2 and was impressed, but I’m not able to compare it to the Dura-Ace option.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Well ‘better’ in my opinion is DA, that’s what I got. LOL. I was just saying that when speaking to other people, the overwhelming majority said they would prefer the advantages of Di2 over the small weight gain.

    Having used both, I’d go for
    Having used both, I’d go for the DI2. Much smoother shifting and you don’t need to back off when climbing and changing gear. It does take a little while to get used to. Plus no more having to set gears up, cables to replace etc. Weight saving isn’t alot, go to the loo before setting off!!! :))

    Another vote for Dura-Ace.
    Another vote for Dura-Ace. Can’t say I’ve ridden either but both appear to be just as good shifting wise. Dura-Ace is easily lighter, is the only decent looking Shimano groupset in my opinion, and the cransket is meant to be fantastic when it comes to stiffness and smove shifting.

    Dura-Ace all the way.

    I actually found myself in the same position this week. I was looking at a particular bike and couldn’t decide between Ultegra Di2 or Dura Ace 9000.

    Sounds silly, but in the end I went with DA purely because I’ve been saving up and I’ve always wanted to be able to afford a DA bike. I know deep down, that Di2 is probably better, but the heart wants what the heart wants! LOL.

    I rationalised my choice by;
    I’ve seen a few people accidentally shift using Di2.
    I think there is a weight saving with DA – probably not very much tho.
    DA looks nicer than 6870 – granted that is purely my opinion!
    No junction box under the stem or battery on the chainstay, so neater.
