    Other than not braking or having disc brakes does anyone have any tips for preventing overheated rims blowing tyres on the descents of mountains.

    cheers everyone, i definitely use the front break way too much and have a tendency to feather. Especially on descents I am unfamiliar with. I need to be more like Nibali and less like Wiggins.

    Use shimano ice discs then no need to worry about blown tyres, only branding your leg with the shimano logo 🙂

    Don’t feather the brakes,
    Don’t feather the brakes, break sharper and shorter, don’t drag on them.

    Sit up as an air brake.

    Common sense.

    Erm, has that happened to you
    Erm, has that happened to you before? It’s pretty rare.
    Carbon rims get hotter than alloy ones because carbon’s terrible at dissipating heat.
    Better brake pads will help you stop faster, so allow you to stop clamping your brakes on as much.
    Other than that, you just need to become a more confident descender which will allow you to brake less.
